Hope Eternal was a Super-Earth, which was a little bit larger than Earth. It had a heavy gravity, so it was hard for humans to walk on it. Furthermore there were volcanoes and there were a lot of mineral deposits, which were valuable. That is why Hope Eternal became interesting to the humans, who wanted to dig up the minerals.
