- 7 January - Episode four of The Highlanders debuted on BBC1. This was the last purely historical Doctor Who episode until Black Orchid in 1982.
- 14 January - Episode one of The Underwater Menace debuted on BBC1.
- 14 January - The final instalment of The Daleks comic strip was published in TV Century 21.
- 21 January - Episode two of The Underwater Menace debuted on BBC1.
- 21 January - The Daleks made their first appearance in the Doctor Who comic strip appearing in TV Comic.
- 28 January - Episode three of The Underwater Menace debuted on BBC1.
- 4 February - Episode four of The Underwater Menace debuted on BBC1.
- 11 February - Episode one of The Moonbase debuted on BBC1.
- 18 February - Episode two of The Moonbase debuted on BBC1.
- 25 February - Episode three of The Moonbase debuted on BBC1.
- 4 March - Episode four of The Moonbase debuted on BBC1. This was the last use of the original 1963 opening credits sequence and theme arrangement.
- 4 March - TVC 794 was published by TV Comic, along with an untitled story.
- 11 March - Episode one of The Macra Terror debuted on BBC1. A new title sequence and updated logo and a new arrangement of the theme with added echo debuted; with some adjustments, this theme arrangement remained in use until 1980. This was the first appearance of the lead actor's face in the opening credits, a practice in use until 1989.

- Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks received its first American paperback publication by Avon Books. This was the first Doctor Who novel to be published in the US and the only American edition published until the late 1970s.
