Onegin was a soldier serving on the submarine, the Firebird, in 1983. When the Ice Warrior Skaldak was imprisoned, he confirmed to Skaldak he had slept for 5000 years. While searching for the escaped Skaldak, he was killed by Skaldak. (TV: Cold War) His name, similar to the ship, is a reference to the works of Russian romantic composers, in this case it refers to one of the leads of Tchaikovsky's opera "Eugene Onegin".
