The Tythonians are of race of unusual aliens from Tythonus.

Biology

The Tythonians are unusual in that they are massive, blob-like organisms, sometimes hundreds of feet long. They don't have any true limbs, but they do have two large pseudopod. One pseudopod is y-shaped, while the other is simply a large tube. They also have no vocal cords and need to communicate the aid of Tythonian Communicators, but they can apparently sense their environment by unknown means. Tythonians can live for 40,000 years.

Tythonians subsist on chlorophyll and minerals, which they can absorb through their skin. Their mineral rich diet allows them to weave a special, extremely tough material. This material is regenerating and can fill a variety of functions.

Technology

Tythonian technology is usually based off the materials that they can naturally weave. Erato travelled in a massive egg-like craft of this material, with a photon drive made of other metals. Tythonians could also control the path of neutron stars, which they use in times of war.

History

At some point in history, the planet Tythonus was running out of chlorophyll for food. The Tythonians discovered that Chloris was rich in plants and could use the metals of Tythonus. The Tythonians sent Erato to try to set up a trade agreement, but he was captured by Adrasta and was trapped in a mine for 15 years. He was eventually saved by the Doctor, but not before the Tythonians declared war on Chloris and launched a neutron star at its sun.
