Masuko Okada was a survivor of the 1945 atomic bomb attack on Nagasaki. He lived for 18 more years before succumbing to tumours in 1963.
In the City of the Saved, Okada lived in the Yokai District. During the Civil War, Okada survived yet another devastating attack; Yokai was hit by a weapon which obliterated bodies but left behind an echo of its victims' minds. Okada wandered the empty streets of Yokai, listening to the echoes of his neighbours, friends, and family. (PROSE: A Hundred Words from a Civil War)
