The Da Gama was a deep space probe captained by Admiral Vayle.

The Seventh Doctor once materialised on board to discover the ship was on autopilot and that Vayle was in a form of suspended animation, in which the Admiral experienced virtual reality to alleviate his boredom during the long journey.
