The Curatrix was an artificial intelligence and one of the two guardians of the Galactic Seed Vault. However, it was denied the knowledge of the thirteenth vault secret to protect its secret.
The Curatrix could communicate with visitors using hologrphic projections, using an avatar most suitable for each visitor. (PROSE: The Secret in Vault 13)
