Professor Quandry was a "vexatious" Victorian academic to whom Rupert Von Thal was an assistant. He attended the Block Transfer Computation "séance" that the Fifth Doctor had arranged in Beatrice Mapp's large Bloomsbury home, sitting besides Brenda. He assumed that Nyssa was Mapp's maid and scolded her for telling him to have patience while waiting for the séance to start. Once the séance began, Quandry repeated the numbers "1110".
