Transporters were teleportation devices similar to transmats used for instantaneous transport by the United Federation of Planets in a parallel universe. Transporters were used in Federation facilities as well as the vessels of their Starfleet. Transport was initiated by the vocal command "energize". (COMIC: Assimilation²)
History
The unique radiation of the planet Aprilia III prevented use of USS Enterprise's transporter, forcing Captain James T. Kirk to use the shuttlecraft Galileo to visit the planet.
