Leopold Krauss was a wealthy Viennese businessman.
Believing in the advancement of science, he became a patron of his friend Alfred Stahlbaum and Stahlbaum's "creation" the Silver Turk.
While trying to catch a cab to Stephansplatz, Krauss was murdered and savagely mutilated by Gramm on orders from Johan Drossel. Mary Shelley read about his murder in a newspaper on 11 September 1873 in an article with the headline "The Second Eyeless Murder on the Ringstrasse". (AUDIO: The Silver Turk)
