Friday's ship was an Ice Warrior vessel used by the warrior known as Friday. (TV: Empress of Mars)

History

At some point around 5,000 years before 1881, an Ice Warrior left Mars in the ship, entering a cryogenic cell onboard to hibernate. At some point, the ship eventually crashed on Earth, damaging the cell and injuring the Ice Warrior contained within.

In 1881, the ship was found by Colonel Godsacre of the British Army on the South African veldt. Godsacre and his men managed to revive the Ice Warrior who they named Friday after Man Friday in Robinson Crusoe. In exchange for their help in repairing the ship for a return to Mars, Friday promised them Martian gems, in reality planning to use them to rescue Empress Iraxxa and her Ice Warrior Hive.

The soldiers and Friday succeeded in repairing the ship and flying it to Mars, but the ship crashed upon landing, stranding the humans and Ice Warrior upon the Red Planet. Using one of the ship's weapons, the soldiers created the Gargantua as a piece of mining equipment to reach the jewels, though Friday in reality directed them to the hive. Captain Catchlove worked on repairing the ship again to return the recovered jewels to Earth and kept the true state of repair a secret, making it seem like the ship was still in a worse state than it actually was. However, Jackdaw was aware of the truth.

When the Twelfth Doctor arrived with Bill Potts, they encountered Catchlove on his return from his repairwork. Godsacre and Catchlove subsequently explained the events that led the soldiers to Mars and the supposed state of the ship. The Doctor and Bill lied that they too had been aboard the ship and had simply been hidden until that point. After uncovering the hive, Jackdaw decided to steal jewels from Iraxxa's tomb and then steal the ship to escape back to Earth. However, he awakened Iraxxa in the process and was killed.

When the battle between the British Army and the Ice Warriors went badly, Catchlove decided to flee and kidnapped Iraxxa both as a hostage and because he needed her help to fly Friday's ship. Catchlove intended to destroy the lifts with dynamite to prevent anyone from following him, but was killed by Godsacre. The ship was presumably abandoned on Mars when Alpha Centauri sent a fleet to evacuate the Ice Warrior survivors. (TV: Empress of Mars)
