Mayfield Terrace was a Shoreditch road near Totter's Lane that was hit by German bombs during the Blitz in World War II.

In June 1963, the last of the terrace had been taken down. After the demolition, a hypersonic German weapon that had been buried there the same time as bombs began working again and started making young people hate and attack anyone who was different to them. In October, when the First Doctor blocked the radio signal coming from the weapon, he told Colonel Rook to inform his masters to destroy the weapon. (AUDIO: Hunters of Earth)
