"Poof" was a derogatory term used to described homosexuals, (PROSE: Endgame, Interference - Book One) and "the nearest English equivalent to a Czhanos word meaning 'unfit for service'." Men of this description were court-martialled. (PROSE: Death and Diplomacy)

Jack called the Eighth Doctor "a poof in a waistcoat". (PROSE: Timeless) A variation of the term was "poofter", which was also applied to the Eighth Doctor on one occasion. (PROSE: The Deadstone Memorial)
