The 2000 Olympics were the Olympic Games held in Sydney. Evelyn Smythe once told Melanie Bush that she had used her knowledge of the future gleaned by TARDIS travel, to "put a hundred on Sydney" winning the bid for those Olympics. Earnings from that bet, and other similar ones, "set [her] up nicely" on Earth in the wake of the Sixth Doctor's decision to ask her to do some research for him without giving her any money to live on.
