Metal Mutt Productions — or, more formally, Metal Mutt Productions Pty Ltd — is the production company in overall charge of making the 2009 series, K-9.

As the full legal name suggests, it is a limited partnership, created partially a liability shield for the true producers. That said, it also serves to combine the legal interests of several companies: Limelight International Media Entertainment (a production company headed by Grant Bradley, Dale Bradley and Pam Collis, three of the key production personnel for the series), Stewart and Wall Entertainment (the production company of producers Penny Wall and Richard Stewart) and K9 Films (the intellectual properties holding company established by series creators Bob Baker and Paul Tams' in the late 1990s). Though Metal Mutt is the central production entity for K9, it shares copyright on the programme with several other entities.

In early 2009 they entered into a co-production arrangement with the Queensland University of Technology to produce a behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the first series of K-9. This documentary will be broadcast by Network Ten, and included on the eventual DVD release of the series. [1]
