Hieronymous was the leader of the Pharisees in Byzantium at around the time of Jesus Christ. In arounhd 54, he ordered the stoning of a girl named Ruth who had dared to publicly announce her faith within his jurisdiction. This was an action he later came to regret, especially after mellowing in his old age, when he came to have a greater respect for those of other religious beliefs.
