The Ghanta was a holy relic of the Det-Sen Monastery. It was a Tibetan bell.
In 1935, the Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon and Victoria Waterfield visited the monastery to return the bell, which had been given to the Doctor for protection in 1630. (TV: The Abominable Snowmen)
