The First Auction in Heaven was a Spiral Underworld auction held in a self-contained atmosphere on Kratoam by Cortalian during the Armistice. It dealt with items salvaged from the War in Heaven, which would become a rarity into the Peace.
Ultimately, Cortalian was herself killed in the chaos when Apep (one of the items on auction) returned to life and unfroze the Battle of Cratosi Fields (another one of the items on auction), and the temporal strain of Apep's subsequent defeat by three rogue members of Faction Paradox caused the whole Auction, including all its contents and guests as well as the planet Kratoam itself, to leak out of existence. (PROSE: Going Once, Going Twice)
Items on auction
Items on auction included the Ochenissi Tablet a caged temporal predator reciting Hamlet's most famous soliloquy, red rockets "programmed to warp reality and knock entire cities into a postmodern nightmare", a Homeworlder hybrid shrunk into a bottle, the gear shaft of Iris Wildthyme's Celestial Omnibus recovered from its crash into the City of the Saved, the Frozen Battle of Cratosi Fields, and Apep.
Additionally, bazaars sold weaponry, pieces of temporally erased cultures, star systems in glass bottles, and disembodied body parts of Homeworlders with the tagline "grow your own lord of history". (PROSE: Going Once, Going Twice)
Participants
Mercenaries, smugglers and crime lords of all ilk and species were invited, as well as crooked politicians and clergymen. These included a centaur, a a Technosapien, a member of the Cephalopodic Coterie, two coral-like posthumans (the Baron of Trilermeriaq and his lover), the Ice Heiress and her Ice Drones, a Catholic Bishop, and representatives of the Faction Paradox splinter-group known as the Family of the Shadow Spire. (PROSE: Going Once, Going Twice) The Retconning Crocodiles also attended, though they subsequently retconned themselves out of the events, to avoid being caught in the "Third Universe's endless time-warmongering". (PROSE: Resurrection of the Author)
