NASA

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, (PROSE: Death and Diplomacy) or NASA, was an American organisation founded in 1958 dedicated to exploring space. (AUDIO: Red Dawn)

History

20th century

In 1961, the Brookings Report was approved, telling NASA how it could conduct its business. (AUDIO: Red Dawn)

In 1969, NASA launched the shuttle signal that the Eleventh Doctor used to hypnotise everyone on Earth to kill the Silence on sight. (TV: Day of the Moon)

In the 1970s, NASA sent a Golden Record in each of the two Voyager space probes, which contain a map of the solar system, pictures of what humans looked like along with images, voices and music including Chuck Berry. These messages were noticed by extra-terrestrial species, resulting in the Pulse being sent to Earth. (TV: A Day in the Death)

In the 1980s, the Eighth Doctor and Debbie Castle stole a NASA space shuttle. (PROSE: Father Time)

21st century

In 2003, close to the Agent Yellow crisis, Chris Cwej worked for NASA. (PROSE: Eternity Weeps)

Around 2006, NASA launched the Ares Project to Mars. (AUDIO: Red Dawn)

After capturing the quantum transducer, Jack Harkness commented that it made NASA look like Toys R Us. (TV: Ghost Machine)

In October 2007, Owen Harper speculated that Jack Harkness was calling NASA about the alien warning device Torchwood Three had in its possession. (PROSE: Border Princes)

Andromeda Ross believed that NASA were covering up the existence of life in Centaurus. (AUDIO: Believe)

In 2008, it also formed part of a teleconference on the Atraxi crisis. (TV: The Eleventh Hour)

In 2010, Sarah Jane Smith sabotaged a NASA rover on Mars to prevent it from discovering a pyramid. (TV: The Vault of Secrets)

At some point before 2011, NASA astronaut Millicent Drake's shuttle was destroyed by what appeared to be a meteor (in fact a disguised segment of the Key to Time) controlled by the Cronquist, leaving her the only survivor. (AUDIO: Ferril's Folly)

In 2020, NASA detected the Transit Station on their scanners in orbit around the moon, not seeing it approach. By 7:10 the next morning, they were preparing a mission to intercept it. BBC News reported their actions. (PROSE: At Childhood's End)

NASA still existed by 2049 as Lundvik worked there. (TV: Kill the Moon)
