The Hua-Shen was a gigantic sea creature used by the Sea Devils to "hunt", "seek" and "feast" in the seas of 17th century China. It was allowed to roam free to feed on unsuspecting sailors and bring others down below the depths to the Sea Devils. Its origin was unknown; including whether or not it was the only creature of its kind, or whether it was native to Earth much like the Sea Devils themselves. (TV: Legend of the Sea Devils)
The Hua-Shen resembled a large fish similar to the sea creature found by the Twelfth Doctor and Bill in the River Thames during the last Frost Fair of 17th century London. (TV: Thin Ice) In particular, it had large dorsal fins that jutted out of the water; ten orange eyes split between both sides of its head; and hundreds of razor-sharp teeth lined up in multiple rows in its mouth. It had the ability to resit and catch multiple cannonballs, as well as spit them back at full speed; and would often rise up from the depths with a wide-open mouth to devour and catch its prey.
Zheng Yi Sao initially described the Hua-Shen as a myth. When the Sea Devils were defeated by the Thirteenth Doctor, the whereabouts of the Hua-Shen was unknown. (TV: Legend of the Sea Devils) It possibly could be still roaming the seas or may have returned to the depths to any remaining Sea Devils.
The name "Hua-Shen" could be derived from "huà shēn"; the Pinyin spelling of the chinese word 化身 meaning "incarnation" or "reincarnation". This could be a clue as to the origin of the Hua-Shen; as it could mean the Sea Devils reincarnated it from prehistoric times similar to the Myrka; a species descended from dinosaurs and genetically modified by the Silurians (PROSE: The Behemoths)
