King Louis XV was the ruler of France, and lover of Reinette in her later life, he was dubious about the Doctor until he was saved by him from the Clockwork Robots.
When the Doctor arrived back in France in 1764, it was in time to see Reinette's hearse leaving Versailles for the last time, and the King gave the Doctor a letter from his mistress. (DW: The Girl in the Fireplace)
