Mary Mortimer was the daughter of Henry and Maddie Mortimer and mother of Thomas.
Biography
Mary was born to Henry and Maddie Mortimer, the latter of whom time travelled back to 1936 with River Song to die with her and her brother, George, in their nursery. They were told by their father that Maddie had run away. Mary and George played duets on the violin as children and, for her twenty-first birthday, her father bought her a record of "Artie Berger Likes to Swing".
One Christmas, Mary had a fling with Rupert and became pregnant, but chose to reject his offer of marriage and chose to raise Thomas as a single mother at Hideaway. She hired River as Thomas's governess in 1962 and confronted her when George claimed that she had given him a Valentine's card, but River misinterpreted her meaning and believed that she was flirting with her. Mary was flattered. On Easter Sunday in 1963, she was grateful to River for saving Thomas's life after a wasp attack.
Before George returned to Switzerland, he told Mary that he was in a relationship with Remy, whom she remained in contact with after George's premature death. In 1987 or 1988, Nicole returned to Hideaway and pretended to be Maddie. Mary encountered River again in June 1988, which was their first meeting from River's perspective, and gave her clues about her future as well as instructions on how to get hired as Thomas's governess.
By 2014, Mary had died. (AUDIO: Friend of the Family)
Legacy
Harry Mortimer and Vinay Siddiqui exchanged two of Mary's rings at their wedding ceremony. (AUDIO: Friend of the Family)
