The Reverend Mr Wainwright was the vicar of St Jude's Church in Maiden's Point during World War II.
Biography
Wainwright was not afraid of the German attacks on the British, but despised the fact the British bombed the Germans and killed innocents.
The Haemovore-transformed Phyllis and Jean cornered Wainwright in the church graveyard and were about to kill him, but he was saved by the Seventh Doctor and Ace.
Wainwright later tried to stop the Haemovores with his faith, but Phyllis and Jean were able to penetrate his psychic barrier by taunting him with his fears and faults — killing him once they had done so. (TV: The Curse of Fenric)
Behind the scenes
- Wainwright is a young man in Ian Briggs's novelisation, rather than middle-aged as in the televised version.
- Christopher Eccleston and Peter Capaldi were considered for the role before Nicholas Parsons was cast.
