"Gizmo device" is a title based upon conjecture.

A gizmo was a device used by Gwen Cooper to disable CCTV cameras.

When Gwen visited Clement McDonald following the 456's communications, Clem was hesitant to talk and expressed concern over the CCTV camera monitoring them both in the room. Gwen activated the device which emitted a pulse that immediately disabled the camera facing the room. When asked what it was, Gwen nicknamed it a "gizmo", much to Clem's amusement. A few minutes later, a nurse came running into the room to check the situation after noticing the camera had went dead. (TV: Children of Earth: Day One)

Gwen would use the device again the next day when attempting to save Jack Harkness from Ashton Down. When Gwen and Rhys Williams told Corporal "Kodak" Camara that they were undertakers who had arrived to retrieve the body of Rupesh Patanjali, Camara took them to where his body was stored. With the device, Gwen disabled three CCTV cameras and knocked out Camara, though the broken cameras immediately alerted a guard who was watching. (TV: Children of Earth: Day Two)
