Drive was the forty-seventh story in the Torchwood - Monthly Range by Big Finish Productions. It was written by David Llewellyn and featured Naoko Mori as Toshiko Sato.
Publisher's summary[[edit] | [edit source]]
They know everything about Cardiff – they hear the city's secrets, they move between its hidden places, they understand its nightmares. And they're the people you turn to if you're in trouble. They are taxi drivers.
Toshiko Sato, wounded and desperate, wakes up in the back of a cab. She's got one night to save the city, and the meter's running.
Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]
Fawzia takes Tosh to St Helen's Hospital after she passes out in her taxi and, after taking Lee into Cardiff, she gets a call from her as she left her bag. When Tosh finds that the tracking device she is looking for is missing, she gets Fawzia to drive her to Cardiff Bay where she uses a device at the Hub to revitalise herself and tracks the device to Zero's where she takes it from the unconscious Lee. She explains to Fawzia that her group learnt that Cash King was going to move something illicit and that, with the rest of the team in Brecon, she staked out Cash King and was attacked before she could follow the buyer. When she came to, she had a Zagro worm under her skin which she could only neutralise at the Hub.
Tosh tracks the item, a limited teleporter, to J. Markham Accountancy at Embankment Park, but the buyer uses it to disappear before he can be captured. She then follows it to the St Canna Shopping Centre and tells Fawzia that the teleporter draws on the atoms of its user for power, meaning that the buyer could do serious harm to himself. By pretending to be a police officer, she is shown CCTV footage of a jeweller's being robbed using the teleporter and tracks it to El Dorado's, the middle of the River Ely and Roath. Fawzia realises that Tosh works for Torchwood and deduces that both of the buyer's targets had their accountancy done by J. Markham.
Fawzia correctly guesses that the buyer's target in Roath is the Zanzibar Grill and Tosh confronts him, learning that he is getting revenge on the businesses. The two of them use the teleporter when Fawzia alerts them to armed men outside and the buyer leaves Tosh on ASBO Hill, from which Fawzia collects her before hiding from the armed men following her at the train station. She then drives Tosh to the abandoned marina by the River Ely and they find the buyer's hiding place in a boarded-up foot tunnel. The buyer, Chris Thomas, explains how he has been stealing to support his family and does not care about his own life, but Tosh and Fawzia persuade him to leave what he has stolen behind and hand over the teleporter. As Fawzia and Chris run from the armed men, Tosh sets the teleporter to explode.
Tosh lets the armed men take back what was stolen and uses her paralysis ray on one who tried to interrogate her. The explosion causes the tunnel to start flooding and she escapes with Fawzia and Chris, who begins to feel stronger as a result of the teleporter's energy being released. Tosh confronts the man responsible for selling alien artefacts and stolen goods before he is arrested by the police and leaves Fawzia a sum of money with a note thanking her.
