A Dalek flying saucer, identified as a Dalek command saucer, (PROSE: Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe) fought in the war against the Combined Galactic Resistance (TV: Into the Dalek) while in the Ryzak solar system. (PROSE: The Secret Lives of Monsters) It externally resembled the Nacrana Va Hateen, the saucer of the Parliament of the Daleks which was destroyed during the Siege of Trenzalore. (PROSE: Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe, TV: The Time of the Doctor)

History

The interior of the Dalek ship. (TV: Into the Dalek)

It chased Wasp Delta, piloted by Journey Blue and her brother, attempting to destroy it and kill the two. The Twelfth Doctor succeeded in rescuing Journey, but her brother died. After "Rusty" turned evil again, he sent out a distress signal from the Aristotle and the saucer docked with the ship, the bronze commander dispatching boarding Daleks to slaughter the crew. At first they were successful, but the efforts of the Doctor and Clara Oswald turned "Rusty" against his own kind once more and he slaughtered the other Daleks on board the Aristotle. "Rusty" then ordered the saucer to retreat, telling the crew that the humans had activated the Aristotle's self-destruct. Fearing destruction and believing their mission accomplished, the saucer retreated with "Rusty" joining the resistance to continue his campaign against his species. (TV: Into the Dalek)

The Daleks dock with the Aristotle. (TV: Into the Dalek)

According to research by human historians who studied Dalek history, Rusty managed to destroy the command saucer after boarding it, subsequently being left adrift in its wreckage. According to the same body of research, Rusty was recovered from the debris by other Daleks and eventually exiled to the Dalek Asylum for his deviance. (PROSE: Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe)

Behind the scenes

  • Originally Rusty was planned to blow up on the Dalek ship. This ending can be seen in an early black and white version of the episode, which leaked online before the original episode's release.
