An Inverness cape be a sleeveless outer-coat to protect from weather.

The Third Doctor wore Inverness capes done in red silk-lined black, (TV: Doctor Who and the Silurians) purple silk-lined black, (TV: Terror of the Autons) scarlet and emerald tartan, (TV: The Curse of Peladon) blue silk-lined black, (TV: The Three Doctors) burnt orange silk-lined brown, (TV: Carnival of Monsters) grey checked with mid-blue lining, (TV: Invasion of the Dinosaurs) and brown tartan.
