Londonderry, (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Cave-Monsters [+]Loading...["Doctor Who and the Cave-Monsters (novelisation)"]) also known as Derry, (PROSE: Beautiful Chaos [+]Loading...["Beautiful Chaos (novel)"]) was a city in Northern Ireland.
History
Major Barker was deployed to Londonderry, where he led a British Army squad against an IRA sniper. The sniper was taken prisoner but when a soldier was killed by a second sniper, Barker executed his prisoner in anger. He was asked to resign from the army afterwards. Callum Fitzhaugh was from Derry, as was his girlfriend Caitlin. After being rejected by Caitlin in 1999, Callum's distress allowed the Mandragora Helix to take him over and turn him into the businessman Dara Morgan, who employed a number of Northern Irish people, including Caitlin, at MorganTech. Behind the scenes
In the real world, the city is officially known as "Londonderry". However, the naming of the city has historically been subject to dispute between Irish nationalists and Unionists, with the former favouring "Derry". The naming of the city was especially politicised during the Troubles. In DWU sources, both names have been used interchangeably to refer to the city, though it is important to note that Doctor Who and the Cave-Monsters [+]Loading...["Doctor Who and the Cave-Monsters (novelisation)"] was published near the beginning of the Troubles, and uses the Londonderry name within the context of a former British Army soldier's (Major Barker) thoughts.
