This story features a "present-day" Leela recalling an event from her days of traveling with the Doctor.  The "present" of this story is well after the events of The Invasion of Time, and, logically, after her appearances in the Gallifrey audio series.  In fact, it seems to be set during the BBC Wales era of Doctor Who, as Leela mentions that Gallifrey and the Time Lords no longer exist.  The Leela who narrates the story is in her old age, having outlived her natural lifespan due to the unspecified "influence" of living on Gallifrey.  She has become physically old precisely because the Time Lords are not around to sustain her youth.  The bulk of the story is told in flashback which occurs sometime between The Talons of Weng-Chiang and Horror of Fang Rock.
*This story takes place after ST: Stanley
*This story takes place before CC: Empathy Games

Publisher's summary

The pride of the Z'nai matches that of Leela of the Sevateem. Why would the Doctor imprison one in such an unlikely place, and what terrors will be brought about by letting it loose?

Continuity

 • Jessica Douglas, a character in the main flashback adventure, had a father, Lord Joshua Douglas, who is implied to have traveled with the First Doctor or the Third Doctor for what may have been as long as a decade.
 • The Leela of the flashback sequences is portrayed as being unsurprised that the Doctor would have another face. This is a little discontinuous in that the Leela of the time in which that part of the story is set was not yet familiar with the concept of regeneration. However, as the story is narrated by a Leela who'd long lived on Gallifrey, it's possible that she is de-emphasizing the surprise she actually experienced at the time.
 • This story strongly implies that Leela survived the Last Great Time War.
 • Leela was named after the Sevateem's greatest female warrior, who was the most revered figure in Sevateem history.
