Beef N Beans was a canned foodstuff (baked beans with added beef) sold by a company in the early 2020s. It cost 40p per tin.

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

Jeff used multiple storage units in ELF Storage by 31 December 2021, one of which contained thousands of tins of Beef N Beans. The beans had, according to the Thirteenth Doctor, expired some three years before.

Sarah discovered Jeff's hoard of out-of-date beans when she went through his units to find any sort of weapon to use against a Dalek. She remarked that the beans were "gross".

Later, when the Doctor and Yasmin Khan searched for anything to use against the Daleks, they found the hoard. Yaz couldn't understand why anybody would want to add beef to beans, and the Doctor quipped that they wouldn't given it was all out-of-date.

The Doctor later lied to one of the Daleks that she was eating some Beef N Beans when it quizzed her after she asked it if it wanted to join her.

All the Beef N Beans were destroyed by the Doctor when she blew up ELF Storage to defeat the Daleks. (TV: Eve of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Eve of the Daleks (TV story)"])

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Beef N Beans is a generic, faux-product designed by graphic designer Stephen Fielding. He shared the design of the label on his website as part of his portfolio.[1]
    • This label revealed: the ingredients (Beans (51%), Tomatoes (34%), Beef, Water, Sugar, Modified Cornflour, Spirit Vinegar, Salt, Spice Extracts, Herb Extracts); that they were gluten-free; that they had to be emptied into a covered container once opened; that they had be refrigerated and used within two days; a guide for cooking that explained they had to be cooked in a microwave at 830W inside a covered microwaveable container for one and a half minutes, taken out and stirred, before another minute of cooking; that the packaging was widely recycled; that they were produced in the United Kingdom for Redmonds Food Limited of Basildon, Essex, SS12 [unclear]; its batch ID number, product version number and distribution number; the nutritional value per 205g (7% energy, 1%/0.6g fat, 1%/0.1g saturates, 10%/9.2g sugar, 16%/[unclear].96g salt) and the typical energy values per 100g; and that the contents of a single can weighed 410g.
    • The product had the tagline "Go on! Beef up your beans!"
  • A different design of baked beans label is currently being sold on eBay for £25, which is potentially a scrapped design for Beef N Beans.[2]
  • The image on the can shows baked beans with sausages, not the expected chunks of beef; it can be expected that these sausages are therefore primarily beef-based.
  • The product is also called Beef'N'Beans and beef n beans in the script[3] and in marketing.[4]
  • On 6 January 2022, the official Doctor Who Facebook account released a Beef'N'Beens-themed spot the difference puzzle.[4]
