Eddie Smith was the brother of Lavinia Smith, the husband of Barbara Smith, the father of Sarah Jane Smith, and the adoptive grandfather of Luke. He and his wife died on 18th August 1951, the day of the Foxgrove village fete when they drove off in their car, leaving their three-month-old baby behind in the pram.
