For the revolution itself, see French Revolution. "The French Revolution" was an alternative title for The Reign of Terror sometimes found in earlier reference checklists of Doctor Who serials.

The French Revolution was a book given by Coal Hill School history teacher Barbara Wright to her pupil Susan Foreman. Susan, who had visited the revolutionary period with her grandfather immediately noted errors in the book. (DW: An Unearthly Child). Later, Ace found a copy of the book in a science laboratory in Coal Hill School. (DW: Remembrance of the Daleks)
