Colonel Tia Karim was a member of UNIT who worked with the Shansheeth in order to travel the stars in the Doctor's TARDIS, as there was 'nothing left for her on Earth' - though what drove her to this point of view is never revealed. To reach her goal, she acted as a representative chosen to inform Sarah Jane Smith of the death of the Doctor.
