The character of Evelyn Smyth in the Big Finish audio series is believed to be based on Smith, with whom Alan Barnes shared a flat at University.
His favourite meal is brown pudding, mushy peas and french fries (which he refers to as Freedom Fries as part of his notoriously anti-French little Englander view of the world).
