Bane was an organic ingredient found in the Bubble Shock! soft drink. It resisted analysis, as if alive. In reality it was an enzyme secreted by the Bane Mother which had addictive properties. The Mother could then telepathically control Bane drinkers. However, while Bane affected 98% of the Human population, 2% had an immunity. The Bane created the Archetype in order to find out why 2% had the biological resistance. (SJA: Invasion of the Bane)

It could be that the Bane wanted to conquer Earth in a similar way to the Cult of Skaro in 1930. The Cult added Dalek DNA to Humans making them Human-Daleks, which could mean, since the Bane ingredient is how the Mother controlled Bubble Shock! drinkers, that the drinkers had become "Human-Bane".
