Tales from the TARDIS was a regular feature of early issues of Doctor Who Weeklywhich re-used adaptations of classic works of literary science fiction previously published by US Marvel Comics titles. The UK branch of Marvel, at that time, publisher Doctor Who Weekly. The Weekly's editor, Dez Skinn found the reprints a cost-effective alternative to the commission of original comics material.

The Tales ran from from 1 through 29. This was followed by a series of short stories under the heading, Dr Who's Time Tales.

The comics, originally presented as full-length stories, were broken up and presented as with by the Fourth Doctor, with the opening and closing frames of each chapter altered to include him.
