Bill King was a part of the special effects production house, Trading Post, in the 1960s. He was the visual effects designer on four Patrick Troughton serials, including The Wheel in Space, The Invasion, The Krotons and The Seeds of Death. Like many visual effects designers in early Doctor Who history, he was credited under a variety of different titles, including that of "special effects designed by" and "visual effects designed by".

After Doctor Who, he was long-serving special effects man on both the 1968 and 1978 runs of The Morecambe & Wise Show.
