IATSE

The IATSE — styled historically I.A.T.S.E. or more fully as the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees — is an AFL-CIO-affiliated union that represents such a wide swath of behind-the-scenes personnel in the United States and Canada that it had to adopt an even longer formal name. Fully known as the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crrafts of the United States, its Territories and Canada, the IATSE has locals covering every part of the US and Canada.

A specific local, the Motion Picture Studio Production Technicians I.A.T.S.E. Local 891 out of Vancouver, Canada, received on-screen, credited thanks for its assistance in making the 1996 tele-movie. As of 2011, it is the only union local to ever be credited on a Doctor Who adventure — even though British unions are known to have played a long and active role in the production of the programme.

The 891st has jurisdiction over the motion picture technicians — but not the camera operators — in British Columbia and the Yukon, meaning that it has become, since about the 1990s, one of the busiest locals in the whole union. Their members worked not only on the 1996 tele-film, but many other genre-related programmes, like Smallville and The X-Files.

In the wider DWU, each episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day bears an IATSE logo. However, no specific local is mentioned in those credits.
