:The talk page of the main page is probably not the best place to post a merger request, as it's not visited with great frequency.  What you want to do is add {{tl|merge}} to the top of whatever page you think should be merged.  As to the specific request, well, I dunno.  Generally speaking, we say that a category is useful so long as it's holding at least three pages.  There are at least three in each of these categories, so they're pretty useful.  Another reason for the separation has to do with an unseen template on the page that helps with sorting.  Individual musicians would take {{tl|NameSort}}, which automatically sorts by last name.  Groups would generally talk {{tl|TitleSort}}, which sorts by the first word which isn't an article.  If we had the group, I dunno, The Four Horsemen, {{tl|NameSort}} would sort under the letter "H", which would be wrong.  {{tl|TitleSort}} would sort by the letter "F", which would be correct.  If you mixed musicians with groups, you wouldn't be able to automatically apply and maintain these sorting templates.  Boring reason, I know, but there ''is'' a rationale present.  Also, if the categories currently look skimpy, you shouldn't believe they will ''always'' be skimpy.  As new musicians are encountered, they're added.  Both categories ''will'' grow as we scour the thousands and thousands of ''Doctor Who'' stories. {{user:CzechOut/Sig}}&nbsp;<span style="{{User:CzechOut/TimeFormat}}">11:54:43 Fri&nbsp;16 Sep 2011&nbsp;</span>

Bothered by today's color changes on the main page?

As we can see from the above comments, at least one editor is already concerned about color changes to home page. These changes are part of a larger effort to finish the transition to the new skin by implementing new, natively-rectangular logos to fit in the space allowed in the so-called "wordmark" in the upper left-hand corner of the page.

This new logo had a different blue to the old one, which has then had the knock-on effect of making "blue links" and blue backgrounds that used to be present on the page compete with the blue of the new logo.

The orange is the natural compliment to the blue in the logo, and allows us to only change half the blue links on the page to the "new blue", but of course we're at an early stage of color-matching. By having two types of orange background, it's then possible to have two types of blue link without the eye really noticing it strongly.

There is no way to easily test these changes, but by doing them live on the main page. Sorry, but I'm not prepared to create "mock" versions of all the templates used on the main page just to do color matching.

The main discussion for all this is at Forum:New logo or Wordmark. Please drop by there to register your suggestions/complaints. CzechOut | 19:59, January 18, 2011 (UTC)

I actually quite like the current blue color scheme. It makes Oasis look mildly tolerable, even :) Styracosaurus Rider Speak to the Rider! 15:12, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

Font

Does anybody else find the pages on this site hard to read with the new font? Is there anyway you can change it back? Please, no hate, I'm just asking. 152.131.9.132 17:42, March 21, 2011 (UTC)

I'm having the same trouble here, the site just looks poorly made now. Try getting through to User:CzechOut as he is the one responsible for the sites recent changes. --Revan\Talk 17:44, March 21, 2011 (UTC)
I am as well. I think it looks a bit tacky with nearly everything capitalised. Mini-mitch\talk 17:46, March 21, 2011 (UTC)
Why anybody would choose a display font with thin horizontal arms, crossbars, and serifs, is beyond me. This site is practically unreadable. A very, very poor choice of fonts indeed.
I find the font difficult to read as well. Also, this wiki takes longer than it should for it to load and operates very sluggishly once it has completely loaded. Needless to say, this is very irritating to navigate through.--Trip 21:11, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

Other Doctor Who wikis

OK, surely, the Doctor Who Special Features, be nearer the back the back of the list? It hasn't been edited in a while. While the Doctor Who Collectors Wiki, should be more nearer the front of the list? I've been editing the DWCW, for ages, & it has recently managed over 3,050 articles, surely, we should get more coverage, than the Fanon; Special features; or Expanded? -- *Peace* I'm Thinking of Linking 17:57, April 24, 2011 (UTC)

Wouldn't it be a good idea to change the Torchwood logo on the main page from just the "T" Torchwood Institute symbol to one that spells out the word "Torchwood" (e.g. like on the Series 4 (Torchwood) posters), just like the logos for the other three series do? Otherwise, some new viewers might have a hard time finding it, especially if the Torchwood institute logo is not as prominent in Miracle Day as in previous series. Ausir(talk) <staff/> 22:54, May 18, 2011 (UTC)

It's a thought, but the design point isn't that three of these symbols contain the complete name of the show, and the Torchwood one doesn't. Rather, it's that they all have dimensions that are closer to 4:3 than 16:10. If we changed the Torchwood logo to the Children of Earth/Miracle Day full-name one, its dimensions quite obviously wouldn't match. It'd be far wider than tall. And I'm not sure how confusing it actually is to stick with the original Torchwood logo, especially since we're using the original DW logo. Of the four choices, the one with the big 'T' is pretty obviously Torchwood, even if that's a symbol that's not used in series 4. Still, if we get a logo outta Miracle Day that's dimensionally appropriate, it might be worth consideration.
Here's the other thought behind the current logos. We can get a more horizontal DW logo to match a changed TW logo. The K9 logohas a certain widescreen-ness about it. But the SJA logo is absolutely locked, cause there, sadly, won't ever be a logo redesign. It's always going to be a firmly squarish design like that. So it kinda controls the other logos on that line.
Finally, the beauty of the old-school T is that it's, bizarrely, likely to be more familiar to DW watchers who've never seen Torchwood. The logo has prominence in episodes like Army of Ghosts, The Runaway Bride and The Sound of Drums, where Torchwood doesn't actually appear. So the people who wouldn't know the "T" logo are a) those who are K9 or SJA fans only or b) those who are only fans of Children of Earth or Miracle Day. The people in group "a" are so negligible as be safely ignored. There's really no such thing as an SJA-only fan. And, really, K9 just isn't good enough to have a fanbase of its own. There are, however, plenty of people who are TW fans but not DW fans. Question is, are there many people who are only COE/MD Torchwood fans? Maybe; I can see there might be people who discover Torchwood for the first time on Starz. But are they really going to be confused if they see a big "T" on the front page? I don't really think so.
All that said, I really am not opposed to changing the logo, as long as the dimensions are basically 4:3. Maybe we could create a logo combining the two, where the new "Torchwood" element is as long as the crossbar in the letter T.

Merger Proposal

The wiki help isn't really helpful when it comes to merge proposals, so I'll have to leave a message here instead. Basically, I propose the Category:Musical groups is merged into Category:Musicians, likewise Category:Musical groups from the real world and Category:Musicians from the real world. Groups are made of musicians, and I don't see why there should be a seperate page, just because some are individuals. Added to this, there doesn't seem to be enough in each category to warrant them being seperate.

Also, if anyone can make the help more helpful, cheers! Geek Mythology 16:33, June 9, 2011 (UTC)

Prisoner Zero/Madame Kovarian

I was just rewatching the 5th series episode 1 The eleventh hour and i just noticed something prisoner zero sounds alot like Madame Kovarian at the 49:49 min mark is it just me take a listen let me know .

Valyard and Time-Lock?

I have a question about the doctor and the Valyard and it is this: since the Time War being time-locked (thus no one being able to enter the past, present, or future of Galifrey), what happens to the trial of the Doctor? By time-locking the War, this would actually erase all of the other past incarnations before the 9th Doctor, because they would not be able to do the things he did in those past incarnations making him and any other (past, present, future) Doctors floating around from the 9th on.... right? What does this time-lock do?

I'm sure this has been a topic at some time, but i'm new to this discussion page (avid watcher or DW and TW tho) and not quite sure how to navigate/find what I need.

Anyways, thanks :) Tomb of the Unnamed Timelord
