Doctor Who Storybooks were a series of annual publications published by Panini beginning in 2007. They were the brainchild of Clayton Hickman, who created the line as a response to BBC Worldwide's revocation of Panini's right to release a book branded as "the Doctor Who annual". Panini had proven with their Doctor Who Annual 2006 that there was indeed a market for Doctor Who annuals about the BBC Wales version of the show. Thus, Worldwide reserved the rights to use the title "Doctor Who annual" for BBC Books, but nevertheless allowed Panini to create an "annual-like" publication.
