Tim Latimer was a schoolboy who fought in the First World War. The Doctor let Latimer take his watch to look after and give him good luck. He survived the war, and at the end of The Family of Blood, the Doctor saw him again as an old man at a funeral, with Martha Jones. Tim had telapathic abilities due to "an extra synaptic engram", which allowed the fob watch that contained the Doctor's Time Lord essence in it, to communicate with him, and instruct him.
