Spoilers are strongly policed here.
If this thread's title doesn't specify it's spoilery, don't bring any up.

This wiki has long held that British English is the preferred type of English seen in the main namespace. However, we've had no real way of enforcing British spelling, until today.

After several months of development, the spell bot performed its first complete run of the main namespace on 31 October 2011. There were no major problems with this run. Something less than 10 words, out of an estimated 11,000 changes, were known to have been incorrectly changed.

Since the entirety of the main namespace has now been policed, future runs of the bot should run much more quickly.

What if the bot screws up

Although this first run has shaken a lot of the bugs out of the bot, it's still possible that you will find the bot introducing the occasional erroneous spelling. If you're a native speaker of British English, and you see a change that you don't agree with, please start a thread in the forum. Title it with the format
Spelling: word
and be sure to put the thread in the category category:Spelling debates

Quick policy reminder

Just to reiterate policy briefly, this wiki requires (and now enforces!) British spelling on text that is seen in the main article space — that is, namespace 0.

How you can improve your British spelling

All users should read help:spell checking for tips on how to make your computer spell check in British English, and help:spelling cheat card for a list of some of the most common spelling errors made on this wiki.
