Taran androids were intricate androids that looked exactly like the human colonists. They were used by them to replace their dead when they were struck by a plague.
An android of Prince Reynart was used to distract Grendel of Gracht from assassinating him. The android was used in Reynart's place, at his coronation. (DW: The Androids of Tara)
