The dimensional stabiliser of a TARDIS (specifically the Monk's TARDIS) regulated the outer plasmic shell of the ship in relation to its exterior. By sabotaging the Monk's dimensional stabiliser, the First Doctor made the inside of the Monk's TARDIS the same size as the outside. This meant that the Monk could not squeeze in through the doors of his ship. (DW: The Time Meddler)
