The 18th century saw the emergence of the first modern democracies in the United Kingdom, America, and France. It also saw the beginning of the Industrial Revolution on Earth, which may have been inspired by Azal ("The Daemons"). Weed Creatures were first seen along the North Sea coast at this time, and the Doctor ran Taunton for two weeks in this century and complained that he'd never been so bored ("Fury from the Deep," "The Highest Science").
