Profile

Hartman oversaw the projects that included the investigation of the Void Ship, as well as the "ghost shift" experiments that resulted in the invasion by the invasion of Cybermen from another universe. She was not personally hostile to the Doctor, however she was confident in the righteousness of Torchwood's actions to the point of fault, ignoring his reccomendations and warnings. Only when the end was near did she attempt to stop the experiments, only to have her orders overridden by staff who had been secretly controlled by the Cybermen. (DW: Army of Ghosts)

Hartman was fiercely patriotic, and believed that Torchwood's work was vital to the survival of the "British Empire" and was assured that their work would in fact lead to the restoration of Britain to the status of world power. Ultimately, she was seized by the Cybermen and led off to be 'upgraded'. While still stricken with tears, she walked into the chamber without coercion, claiming that she "did (her) duty for Queen and Country".

She performed one last known service; even after being 'upgraded' by the Cybermen, her apparent pride and sense of duty was so strong that it overrode the behaviour protocols and allowed her to fend off the Cybermen approaching the top offices, giving the Doctor and Rose time to seal the breach between worlds. While fighting against the cybermen she continued to uter the phrase "I did my duty for queen and country" She is assumed either dead or trapped with the other Cybermen and the Dalek army in the Void. (DW: Doomsday)
