Constable Smitty was a policeman who was infected by radiation after helping Doctor Tulp to gather uranium from the docks. His infection were mainly across his face, which Henry Gordon Jago found grotesque.
He helped Jago find the similarity engine, a machine that projected the mind into another body. (JAL: The Similarity Engine)
