Mr C. G. Slattery was the corpulent managing director of the Inventions International Company in New York City. The Second Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon met him in 1971.
Impressed with the Doctor's newly-designed robot that would greatly reduce the amount of time people spent on simple, household chores, Slattery mass-manufactured the Martha prototype. He also helped market the device, securing television airtime for the Doctor to hawk his new design in front of millions of American viewers.
After the Doctor thwarted an attempt by the Quarks to hijack the Marthas and use them to conquer the Earth, Slattery again secured television time to proclaim the Doctor a global hero — and to suggest that the Doctor should be considered a viable candidate for the office of President of the United States. (TVC: Martha the Mechanical Housemaid)
