Morphic residue was a viscous fluid left behind when certain species genetically re-encoded (shapeshifted). One species known to exhibit this ability were the Vespiforms, a race of giant wasps. It is unknown how or from where the residue was produced. (TV: The Unicorn and the Wasp)
