Michael Wagstaffe was a journalist who worked as defence correspondent of the Daily Chronicle. He questioned Captain Munro and then Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart about the Oxley Woods meteorite shower and the Third Doctor's identity, and later asked Channing if he could vacate the phone box so that the reporters could make some calls. Wagstaffe's theory was that the Doctor had found one of the Nestene meteorites and wouldn't tell UNIT where he'd hidden it. (TV: Spearhead from Space)

Later that year, Wagstaffe was killed in the assassination attempt on Sir John Sudbury. (PROSE: The Scales of Injustice)
